Level of study

have some playing experience (not complete beginners). Intermediate - advanced
welcome.
Dancers – some dance experience required (not complete beginners). Intermediate - advanced dancers welcome.
Singers – must have some singing experience and an understanding of rhythm.
The deities, or Orixás, of Candomblé and Santeria are celebrated with a dynamic, powerful and very beautiful combination of songs, rhythms and dances; the roots of nearly all the folkloric and popular music and dance of Brazil and Cuba. The weekend will focus on the music and dance of several of the Orixás, with space and time to study the three disciplines separately, before fusing them for the final sessions and performance.
Drummers will learn the bell, support drum patterns, lead drum technique and sequences for the Brazilian Orixás. Singers will learn some of the Orixá call and response songs, with the accompaniment of the drummers. Dancers will learn the movements, sequences and language of some of the Cuban Orisha dances.
This is an opportunity for drummers, singers and dancers to focus on the African rooted musical and movemental expressions that continue to inform and inspire Brazilian and Cuban artists and performers.
